Portal Hypertension

  1. Increase in venous pressure gradient across the liver from inflow in portal vein to outflow in hepatic veins and beyond.
  2. 1-5mm hg
  3. Best method to assess portal pressure is to assess HVPG ( Hepatic venous pressure gradient) which is difference between wedged hepatic venous pressure ( WHVP) and free hepatic venous pressure( FHVP). Indirect technique
